Once the Initiate has been received into the Order, a year of training begins. This year should provide a firm foundation for the Candidate in the Dominican Order. Topics should be covered which will give the Candidate an understanding of all important aspects of a Dominican vocation. The following topics are covered with material essential to the common pool of knowledge most Dominicans should know. The first two months are devoted to the Vatican II document on the Laity. Our vocation as a Dominican fits the Church's profile of a Lay Catholic perfectly. Here are the topics which we cover in Farmington Hills, MI:

1. Laity

2. Laity

3. Dominican Family

4. St. Dominic

5. Dominican Saints

6. History of Order

7. Dominican Spirituality

8. Rule

9. Rule

10. Liturgy of the Hours

11. Day of Recollection

12. Christmas Party

At the conclusion of this year of study and prayer, the Candidate will have a very good overview of Dominical life and what a Dominican vocation entails. The material for the program is based on our Provincial Formation Program and Dominican sites. Naturally, the topics can be tailored to the Chapter's particular schedule. They are now prepared to study in more detail over the next three years of their Candidacy II phase before they make their final promises. A house built on a good foundation cannot fail.
