The great German Jesuit Karl Rahner (yes, we love everyone!) said: "The Christian of the future will be a mystic or he will not exist at all." Very interesting! Who is a 'mystic'? Who can be a 'mystic'? The answer is that each of us should strive to be a 'mystic'. A mystic lives in union with Christ. "Spiritual progress tends toward ever more intimate union with Christ." (Catholic Catechism #2014) As spiritual writers have put it: our will must become God's will (e.g. St. John of the Cross). Thus, we will be in union with Christ who came to do the Father's will. This is a life-time project but what a life!
