Who are we?
We are Catholic members of an international Order of Preachers (abbreviated as O.P.) often known as the Dominicans after our founder, Dominic Guzman. We were once commonly known as the Dominican Third Order. Other groups in the order are the friars, cooperator brothers, nuns, sisters, secular institutes, young adults and associates. These comprise the Dominican family. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ St. Dominic with a stylized shield and torch symbolizing truth. ++++ | Where are we? We are spread throughout the world. Our central province, U.S.A., is a geographic area with members meeting in Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan, Iowa, Kansas, Wisconsin, Missouri, Indiana, Colorado and New Mexico under the auspices of the friars of the Central Province. Together with the Eastern Province, Western Province and Southern Province in the U.S.A., we share in Dominican Life. We also have members who are not close to a meeting place but are in contact on an ongoing basis. This site is one of many ways we keep in contact. We wear no distinctive clothing or uniform. The clothing depicted above is the traditional garb of the friars. We welcome inquiries and visitors.
| Why are we? Our Province's Mission Statement: Called to a deeper relationship of love and service to God, we are members of the Dominican Order, who commit to live the Dominican charism as lay people. In collaboration with the Dominican Family, we work to promote social justice and peace in society. Supported by prayer, study, community and ministry, we fulfill our vocation to proclaim the Gospel wherever we, as individuals, live and work. TO PRAISE, TO BLESS, TO PREACH |
Consider joining us in our shared quest for a more focused life and a deeper understanding in the spirit of the Joyful Friar.
